RETAIL GROWTH FIGURES MAKE BROWN'S FORECASTS LOOK INCREASINGLY UNREALISTIC - TAYLOR10.59.30am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 22nd May 2003
Reacting to today's retail sales figures, which shows that year on year sales growth figures have fallen to 2.7%, Matthew Taylor MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor, said: "After manufacturing and investment took a hammering last year there was always the risk that consumer borrowing would not continue to support retail sales growth. " "That now appears to be happening. "Gordon Brown's optimistic growth forecasts look more unrealistic by the day."
