Royal Mail's Poor Performance Highlights Need For Government Action On Uuofficial Strikes - Bruce10.31.40am GMT Fri 27th Feb 2004
Responding to news today that the Royal Mail is unlikely to meet its targets for delivering letters on time, Malcolm Bruce MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Trade and Industry Secretary, said: "It is entirely predictable that this Royal Mail would fail to meet its delivery targets and face further fines." "We have urged the Government to take action to require compulsory arbitration of industrial disputes in the public services and to consider financial penalties for unofficial strikers." "The Government must promote a climate in which Royal Mail is able to compete efficiently and profitably in a growingly liberalised market."
