Brown Still Failing To Tackle Precarious House Price Bubble

9.53.00am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 17th Jun 2004

Vince Cable MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor, responding to Gordon Brown's pledge to maintain stability in the housing market, said: "The Chancellor is still unwilling to recognise that there is a problem. He has failed to tackle the house price bubble, or even to take responsibility for it.

"First time buyers are increasingly being priced out of the market, making the house price bubble even more precarious.

"It is time the Government took action to protect ordinary homeowners against irresponsible lending."
