Government Must Admit True Cost of Attracting Investment

Responding to the publication of Inward Investment figures for 2003/4, Malcolm Bruce MP, Shadow Liberal Democrat Secretary for Trade and Industry, said: "Although the figures look encouraging, we started from a really low base.

"We are told that new jobs are being created, but not told the true cost of Government funding used to attract this investment.

"We don't even know if these jobs will be permanent.

"Furthermore, much of this investment would have been made without using taxpayers' money as an inducement."
