Royal Mail Must Now Meet Targets - Bruce

12.03.00pm GMT Thu 18th Nov 2004

Commenting on increased profits for Royal Mail, Malcolm Bruce MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Trade and Industry Secretary said: "So far so good, but this must be sustained by Royal Mail.

"The Group now needs to meet its performance targets. For customers this will be the litmus test on whether the Royal Mail has got its act together. Considering they failed to meet any of their 15 targets in August 2004 this will be significant challenge for Royal Mail.

"Increased profits at least indicate the company is shaping up in the face of an increasingly competitive market. These results should also put a stop to any discussion of increased postal charges or a diminishing of the universal service by Royal Mail."
