Credit Providers Must Act Responsibly In Run-up To Christmas - Bruce10.10.00am GMT Thu 25th Nov 2004 Commenting on the launch of the OFT's campaign to highlight the importance of shopping around for credit, Malcolm Bruce MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Trade and Industry Secretary, said: "Lending companies are unlikely to push safeguards on credit in the run-up to Christmas when people may be tempted to stretch their credit a little more than usual, so this campaign is particularly timely. "The onus should not be entirely on the consumer. Banks and finance companies should provide reasonable information to ensure customers are able to make an appropriate choice of credit. "But Turkey's don't vote for Christmas and if credit companies don't get their act together on this, Parliament may have to."
