Government Must Act Over Biofuels - Lamb

Speaking ahead of the oil protests this week, Liberal Democrat Shadow Trade and Industry Secretary, Norman Lamb MP has called on the Government to demonstrate its commitment to biofuels and introduce an obligation on oil companies to sell them.

Mr Lamb said: "The UK is lagging behind both the US and Europe in the availability of biofuels and the current high price of oil is yet another reason to encourage their use.

"The Government has been dragging its feet over introducing an obligation on oil companies to sell biofuels alongside petrol and diesel. Now is the time for them to take action and bring biofuels to the fore.

"We need to find alternatives to crude oil, not only for environmental reasons but also to secure a source of fuel for the future."
