Ofgem Must Act to Protect Consumers From Mis-Billing Chaos - Lamb

7.26.23pm GMT Fri 4th Nov 2005

In the wake of the chaos caused by large-scale mis-billing of its customers in the East of England by Powergen, Liberal Democrat Shadow DTI Secretary, Norman Lamb MP, has today urged Ofgem to set a new license standard for billing by power companies.

Commenting, Norman Lamb said:

"Powergen's mis-billing has caused grave concern to hundreds of energy consumers in the East of England, many of whom have been shocked by massively high bills, running to many thousands of pounds, for energy they did not use.

"With 40,000 people complaining of billing problems the time has come for Ofgem to impose strict conditions on all power companies to protect consumers."
