Unemployment Claimant Count Rise Worrying - Cable7.15.00am GMT Wed 16th Nov 2005 Commenting on unemployment figures released today by the ONS which show that the claimant count has risen for the ninth month in succession, Vince Cable MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor said: "The steady rise in the claimant count over the past year is deeply worrying with growing levels of unemployment already having negative effects on consumer spending and the housing market. "The recent rises in repossessions and personal bankruptcies show the disastrous knock-on effects for individuals and families. "Since January of this year, over 75,000 more people have been added to the claimant count which makes the Chancellor's continued silence on the matter all the more worrying."
