Government must provide clear steer to network rail - Carmichael

9.26.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 3rd Jul 2006

Commenting on news that Network Rail is to ask the Government for an extra £7bn to cut overcrowding, Liberal Democrat Shadow Transport Secretary, Alistair Carmichael MP said:

"This seems to confirm what we've all known for some time, if further improvements are to be made to the rail network then more investment is needed.

"When taxpayers' money is being spent, the Government must provide a clear steer to Network Rail on what its spending priorities should be."
