Commenting on the latest rise in unemployment figures, Liberal Democrat Work and Pensions Spokesperson, Danny Alexander MP said: "With the double whammy of higher energy bills and the recent rise in interest rates, this trend of rising unemployment is yet another unwelcome worry for families.

"Rising unemployment and falling employment rates increase the pressure on the Government to get welfare reform right.

"In these circumstances, efforts to get people off incapacity benefit and into work must be properly funded if they are to stand any chance of success. Yet we know that the planned level of funding is woefully inadequate."
