Developing world deserves fairer trade deal - Kramer

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 11th May 2007

As trade talks between the European Union and South Korea reach their final day, the Liberal Democrats have called for them to be used to kick-start the Doha round of world trade talks, ahead of World Fair Trade Day tomorrow.

Commenting, Liberal Democrat Shadow Trade and Industry Secretary, Susan Kramer MP said:

"These welcome trade talks will hopefully increase trade between the EU, South East Asia and the US.

"However, with World Fair Trade Day approaching, surely the Government should be pushing harder to kick-start the Doha trade talks as a matter of urgency?

"By negotiating together, developing countries should be able to get a better deal.

"This means a fair slice of the market, on fair terms, enabling these countries to trade their way out of poverty and take ownership of their futures."
