Report final nail in coffin of ill-fated HIPs - Stunell

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 1st May 2007

Commenting on the House of Lords Merits of Statutory Instruments Committee's report into the Home Information Packs, Liberal Democrat Shadow Local Government Secretary, Andrew Stunell MP said: "This report looks like the final nail in the coffin of this ill-fated project.

"The Government should delay the implementation of HIPs until a proper evaluation can be made on how they will work.

"Ministers' failure to produce the evidence from the pilot studies is beginning to look like another dodgy dossier.

"Energy Performance Certificates should, however, go ahead separately to give people buying new homes important information.

"The Government could easily amend building regulations to ensure that the Energy Performance Certificates come into effect this June.

"Armed with the energy efficient information, home-buyers will be able to save money on fuel bills and help tackle climate change."
