Nuclear tests inquiry must be widened - Kramer

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 26th Apr 2007

Responding to the Government's statement on the inquiry into the testing of tissue samples at British nuclear sites, Liberal Democrat Shadow Trade and Industry Secretary, Susan Kramer MP said: "The terms of this inquiry are still far too narrow. The Government should ensure that all nuclear sites are checked to find out what has occurred and where.

"At the very least Aldermaston and the military nuclear programme must be included in the scope of this investigation.

"It is extremely disturbing to discover that non-employees have been tested. We must know urgently how this occurred.

"Were toxins or radiation factors in any of the deaths, and if so, have the families of all those who effected been informed.

"These events underline the importance of the nuclear industry dropping its veil of secrecy."
