Gordon Browns pension must'nt double to £4m - Oakeshott

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 4th Apr 2007

Liberal Democrat Pensions Spokesperson, Lord (Matthew) Oakeshott, has written to Gordon Brown calling on him to follow the Lord Chancellor and not claim the full £4,320,000 golden pension pot he will be entitled to the moment he becomes Prime Minister.

As Chancellor, Mr Brown currently has a pension worth £1,900,000.

Commenting, Lord Oakeshott said:

"Given the Chancellor's miserly treatment of private pensioners, its only fair if he follows Lord Falconer and takes a more affordable pension himself from the taxpayer."
