Brown must apologise to out of pocket pensioners - Cable

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 2nd Apr 2007

Commenting on the news that the CBI has rejected all claims made by the Treasury that they lobbied for the abolition of tax relief on pension funds in 1997, Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor, Vince Cable MP said: "Gordon Brown's desire to increase taxes through the back door rather than being honest has resulted in a great deal of damage to private and occupational pension funds.

"We said at the time that taxes should be raised openly and honestly.

"Gordon Brown must acknowledge that he made a serious mistake.

"He got it wrong and he should apologise to all those pensioners who are now out of pocket."
