Government IT Projects Display history of Failure

12.01.00am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 5th Jun 2007

Commenting on today's [Tuesday] public Accounts Committee report into the Government's management of large scale IT projects, Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor, Vince Cable MP said: "Given the Government's IT project record of massive cost overruns and delay, it is absolutely essential to have the maximum degree of transparency and public accountability.

"The Chairman of the Committee may be reassured on this score, but the appalling behaviour of Government departments, destroying paper trails rather than submitting them to scrutiny, suggests there is an element of self-delusion in the belief that we now have a transparent system."
