BLAIR'S RED LINES MORE ABOUT SPIN THAN NATIONAL INTEREST - CAMPBELL5.51.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 25th Jun 2007 Speaking after the Prime Minister's statement to the House of Commons on last week's European Summit, Liberal Democrat Leader Menzies Campbell said: "Listening to the Prime Minister today it was still unclear whether his principle aim in negotiating this treaty was the national interest or appeasement of the eurosceptic press. "Having drawn up artificial 'red lines', he has flown home to trumpet a disingenuous victory in defending them. "He span his way into office, and he is spinning his way out of it. "The tragedy for Britain is that the Prime Minister is ending his premiership in the same way as his immediate predecessor, John Major; opt outs and red lines give the impression of a government choosing to edge away from the European mainstream."
