Sarah Teather MP Chosen To Lead Post Office Fight

12.16.11pm GMT Fri 21st Dec 2007

New Liberal Democrat Leader Nick Clegg has asked Brent East MP Sarah Teather to lead the fight against Labour's Post Office closures by promoting her to Shadow Secretary of State for Business and Enterprise.

In her new shadow cabinet role Sarah will take on responsibility for post offices, small business and energy policy.

Local Liberal Democrat MP for Brent East Sarah Teather said:

"I'm delighted to be taking up this position. The Government have consistently refused to rule out further Post Office closures in Brent, and I look forward to being able to use my position to highlight this important local issue in Parliament.

"Local businesses in Brent play a valuable role at the heart of our community and we need to preserve our unique local High Streets. I also look forward to ensuring businesses meet their responsibilities under the social chapter, which includes rights for parental leave.

"My work for local residents will always come first. I will continue to hold six surgeries a month and have an office in Willesden Green that is open five days a week."
