Farepak families must receive compensation - Burt

10.20.00am GMT Mon 10th Dec 2007

Commenting on today's government statement on the failed Christmas hamper company Farepak, Liberal Democrat Small Business Spokesperson, Lorely Burt MP said: "There's absolutely no Christmas comfort here for hard-pressed Farepak families.

"Ministers still don't seem to know what happened to their money, or when they might receive the derisory compensation they have been offered.

"The Government is content to give billions of pounds to Northern Rock with seemingly few safeguards, and yet ministers can't find any money for these families.

"All the Government will promise is a small advertising campaign to help families invest money better. Surely the very least they deserve is a full, open and transparent enquiry into the whole scandal."
