Matthew Taylor MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor, responding to today's growth figures from the Office of National Statistics, said: "Given that manufacturing has grown by only 0.1% on the same quarter of last year, compared to growth in the service sector of 2.5%, it is clear that the problems in manufacturing continue to hold the economy back."

"As the rise in services is only being fuelled by unsustainable consumer borrowing, it is time the Chancellor realised helping manufacturing recover is vital if he is to pay for his health and education plans."
