Government's Double Standards On Energy Efficiency12.45.09pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 30th Mar 2004 Leading the Parliamentary debate today on the Government's commitment to increasing energy efficiency standards in all homes, Liberal Democrat Energy Spokesman, Andrew Stunell, will challenge the Government to put sustainability at the heart of housing. Mr Stunell will say: "The Government has acknowledged that energy efficiency is the cleanest, cheapest and safest way of achieving all our energy aims. Yet it continues to resist setting the tough targets needed to reduce the UK's CO2 emissions." "A big building programme like the Thames Gateway is the perfect opportunity to put sustainability at the heart of housing." "Building 2000 homes with zero energy requirements would give investors a clear sign that the Government takes sustainability seriously, as well as providing comfortable homes with negligible gas and electricity bills."
