Reckless Lending Fuelling House Price Boom - Cable2.14.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 4th May 2004 Commenting on this morning's lending figures Vince Cable MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor, said: "This rise in lending is simply recklessly fuelling the housing boom." "Large numbers of people are gambling on the house price boom - a gamble they may regret if house prices start to fall or interest rates rise. "It is time for the Government to take action to protect ordinary homeowners against irresponsible lending."
