Does Gordon Brown Have Any Plans To Halt Manufacturing Decline?12.57.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 26th May 2004 Commenting on today's GDP figures showing manufacturing back in recession Vince Cable MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor, said: "People want to know that their jobs are secure in uncertain times - security they cannot have while manufacturing is still in recession. "Britain's twin problems of runaway consumer spending and manufacturing in recession cannot be resolved by the Bank of England alone. "The Chancellor must set out what plans he has, if any, to save manufacturing jobs." Notes 1. Today's GDP figures showed that manufacturing output had fallen by 0.5% in the most recent quarter.
