Increased energy efficiency key to reducing emissions - Huhne7.03.00am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 10th Jul 2006 Commenting on the WWF's campaign, which aims to transform the UK power sector in order to achieve a 60% cut in emissions by 2020 and become CO2-free by 2050, Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment Secretary, Chris Huhne MP said: "We back this report because energy saving and better use of renewables are both key to carbon cuts. "The Liberal Democrats are equally supportive of annual cuts in carbon dioxide emissions with tougher caps on heavy industry. "We must get serious about supporting energy efficiency and renewable technologies, as well as investing in a decentralised energy system with local Combined Heat and Power and domestic microgeneration, if we are to reduce the impact of climate change. "Apart from onshore wind farms, investing in energy efficiency provides the most cost effective energy strategy."
