RISING ENERGY PRICES CAUSING HIGHER INFLATION - CABLE3.02.04pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 18th Jul 2006 Commenting on inflation figures released today showing that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) has risen to its previous high of 2.5%, last seen in September 2005, Vince Cable MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor, said: "These figures are very striking and clearly demonstrate the pressure household budgets are under as a result of increased energy bills. "With unemployment at a six year high and record levels of personal debt it is now very worrying that the next move in interest rates is likely to be upwards, putting further pressure on families."
