Royal Mail delivery changes will hit business - Opik

8.03.00am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 13th Aug 2007

Commenting on Royal Mail's plans to deliver most post in the afternoon, Liberal Democrat Shadow Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform Secretary, Lembit Öpik MP said: "This is not a trivial change, and certainly not something to be hidden away in the back of a consultation document.

"The primary problem is that this will extend business turnaround times, which may slow down cash flow and trade.

"Royal Mail must remember that it works in a service driven sector. I am deeply concerned that these measures are driven by accountants and not by customers.

"The Royal Mail has viability problems, mainly due to Government policies, which force it to compete at a disadvantage to its competitors."
